Pigmentation

Pigmentation is a common skin condition in Australia due to our harsh climate and outdoors lifestyle. Pigmentation can not always be completely cleared but with correct home care, in clinic treatment, sun protection & sun avoidance as well as working out what the individuals triggers are pigmentation can be improved.

Hyperpigmentation is a common condition that makes some areas of the skin darker than others

Hypopigmentation refers to patches of skin that are lighter than your overall skin tone. Your skin's pigmentation, or color, is based on the production of a substance called melanin. If your skin cells don't produce enough melanin, the skin can lighten.

Post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH) happens when your skin makes extra melanin after it has been irritated or injured. This is a common for clients that have experienced acne and have gone out into the sun whilst the skin was still healing. You will end up with a darker spot where the acne lesion use to be.

Melasma (also known as the pregnancy mask) a condition in which brown patches appear on the face.

Melasma can be due to hormonal changes during pregnancy, oral contraception and from sun exposure. Women are much more likely than men to develop this condition.

The brown or grey-brown patches of melasma appear most often on the cheeks, forehead, nose and chin.

AGE management

An ageing skin can start to show signs of a loss of collagen and elastin with the skin not looking as full and plump and the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles starting. As we age our oil production can slow down which can also make our skin dryer and sun damage can start to show on our skin with a permanent redness particularly across the nose and cheeks and the appearance of brown spots.

Rosacea

Rosacea is a common skin condition that causes redness, flushing, and sometimes pimples and pustules on the face.

It’s not the same as acne, but it can make you feel embarrassed or lose confidence, particularly if it is left untreated.

Rosacea isn’t contagious but there is some evidence that it may be hereditary. There’s no cure for rosacea, but there are treatments available that can help control it.

What are the symptoms of rosacea?

You may have rosacea if you have:

  • frequent blushing, flushing or redness on your cheek, nose, chin or forehead

  • persistent redness that looks similar to a sunburn that does not go away

  • small visible blood vessels on the face

  • bumps or pimples on the face that might sting or burn (most often on the cheeks, chin and nose)

  • red or irritated eyes or swollen eyelids
